About 300 km of cycle paths of the most beautiful
sceneries of Salzburg. The variety and authenticity of monuments
as well as fascinating natural phenomena’s (as e.g. tumbling
Krimmler water falls, the largest ice-caves of the world). All this
makes the Tauern cycling path a unique sensation: fantastic views
on the mountain scenery of Hochkönig, Watzmann and Großglockner
and a striking panorama of contrasting green pastures, little villages
and a peaceful country life. The city of Salzburg spices this tour

Despite the surrounding mountains the profile is mainly flat to
slightly hilly. The only two remarkable climbs can be avoided by
using the train.
Tour Details:
Day 1: Individual arrival at Salzburg
Individual arrival to Salzburg. Afternoon distribution of rental
bikes.
Day 2: Salzburg – Lofer approx. 55 km
During the first two days you cycle along river Saalach to “Kleines
Deutsches Eck” and well known health resort Bad Reichenhall.
Surrounded by mountains of Berchtesgadener and Chiemgauer Alps the
Saalach cycle path gently returns to Austria. On quiet roads along
the gushing clear Saalach you approach Lofer. The idyllic town is
surrounded by the steep rocks of Loferer and Reither Stony Sea.
Day 3: Lofer – Kaprun approx. 50 km
Leave Lofer, the picturesque town with little alleyways and head
to Lamprechts caves (deepest water cave in Austria). From Saalfelden
(Castle Ritzen and Lake Ritzen) you cycle through lush green meadows
and pastures to Zell am See, then to Kaprun.
Day 4: Kaprun – Krimml – Kaprun approx. 60
km
By bus or train you get from Kaprun to Krimml. You will visit the
famous Krimmler water falls, Hohe Tauern National Park. Almost always
downhill you cycle past many points of interest in little villages
and hamlets of Upper Pinzgau back to Kaprun.
Day 5: Kaprun – St. Johann im Pongau/surroundings
approx. 50 km
On your way to Taxenbach, you will pass through the gorge of Kitzlochklamm,
pass Gasteiner valley in Pongau. Once you climb the 4 km stretch,
you will be rewarded with stunning view of the surrounding mountains.
We recommend visiting the idyllic gorge of Liechtensteinklamm.
Day 6: St. Johann im Pongau/surroundings – Golling
approx. 40 km
Cycling on the dyke of river Salzach you enjoy the alpine surrounding
and views of remarkable Tennengebirge massive. 900 year old Fortress
Hohenwerfen, once was a crucial stronghold of the valley. On the
foot of Hochkönig massive you reach Werfen, a picturesque little
town. Here the largest ice-caves of the world should be explored
(duration approx. 4 hrs). Once you reach Golling, you will admire
the beautifully painted town houses and a castle from the 14th century.
Day 7: Golling – Salzburg approx. 35 km
You continue on Tauern cycle path through fertile fields and green
meadows, past Gollinger water fall, to Hallein, ancient salt metropolis
and Celtic town until you reach Salzburg.
Day 8: Individual departure or extra days
