Austria - Mozart Tour [8 days]

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dotted Salzburg with the places he called home, or visited during his lifetime. And these dots are connected in the mosaic of historical Mozart Points, right through the breathtaking countryside criss-crossed with lakes in Austria and Bavaria in the form of the Mozart Bicycle Path. Tour Details:

Note: During the European Football Championship 2008, from June 10th to 19th, 2008, the capacity of accommodation of all categories in Salzburg is very limited. Should you plan to travel during this time. The accommodations will be in Freilassing near Salzburg.

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
Individual arrival in Salzburg.

Day 2: Salzburg – Waging approx. 50 km
Waging is the town where Mozart made a stop on his way to Paris. You will cross to Bavarian town of Laufen, and you will visit the Water Castle in Triebenbach.

Day 3: Waging – Inzell approx. 40 km
the bicycle path between Waginger See and Chiemsee into the capitol of the Chiemgau, Traunstein (royal brewery, town tower, salt works quarters). Continue on the Traun-Alz bicycle path to Inzell.

Day 4: Inzell – Bad Reichenhall approx. 30 km
Along the river to the salt works town of Bad Reichenhall, always the first stop on Mozart’s journeys to Italy. On your your way, you will also visit Weißenbachschlucht (gorge) of Saalach.

Day 5: Bad Reichenhall – Eugendorf/Seekirchen approx. 60 km
stage takes you through Großgmain (Salzburg’s open-air museum) and on the bicycle path through the city of Salzburg and continues on the path of the old Ischl railway track to Eugendorf.

Day 6: Eugendorf – St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee approx. 40 km
Along the Dragon Wall and Schober to Mondsee. A detour to the market place in Mondsee is worthwhile. Through Scharfling (110 m of altitude) to St. Gilgen, the Mozart town on the Wolfgangsee.

Day 7: St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee – Salzburg approx. 45 km
A hike up to Kühleiten (bike transport), over the Tiefbrunnau and Faistenau to the Hintersee. Continue through the Strubklamm and the Glasnebachklamm (gorges) to the southern city outskirts of Salzburg. A visit to the castle park of Hellbrunn.

Day 8: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight home or your extension.
